Southwest Trekking Itinerary

April 23-30, 2022

  • Las Vegas to Page, AZ

Group members arrive in Las Vegas and spend the night at The JW Marriott Resort & Spa. The next morning we will depart Las Vegas and make our way to Page, AZ. Our knowledgeable guide will provide insight into the best places to stop. One popular stop to make en-route is in St. George, home to Sego Restaurant. As we approach Page, we will pass the Glen Canyon Dam and end with a quick detour of Horseshoe Bend.

    Overnight at Hyatt Place Page.

  • Peek-a-boo Slot Canyon

This morning we will hike to the mesmerizing Peek-a-boo Slot Canyon, where brilliant red Navajo sandstone walls tower about 80 feet. Keep an eye out for Moqui’s steps on the left side of the slot canyon, carved by Anasazi roughly 800-1,000 years ago. Watch as the day’s light strikes different parts of the sculpted walls to create a fire-like orange glow.

  • Lake Powell and Antelope Canyon

This morning we will soak in majestic views on a boat tour of Lake Powell, a world-famous artificial reservoir on the Colorado River. Marvel at picture-perfect surroundings as the boat navigates back and forth through cliff-side channels stretching up Glen Canyon, observing a grand display of fjord-like views, including the iconic Horseshoe Bend. Right next to Lake Powell, a highlight of our day will undoubtedly be a visit to Lower Antelope Canyon. You’ll descend into a world of Navajo Sandstone, remarkedly eroded in the most picturesque way.

  • Page to Zion National Park

Today we will drive from Page to Zion National Park, stopping at the Grand Canyon North Rim. From there, we will venture into Zion National Park with our guide, discovering the stunning beauty found here. The park within the canyon is wide and stunning, its weathered sandstone shining red and white, creating amazingly sculptured rocks, cliffs, peaks, and hanging valleys. In addition, we will explore the tiered natural basin of the Upper and Lower Emerald Pools Trail.

  • The Narrows

On our final day in Zion, we will set out with our guide to explore The Narrows, considered one of the world’s best slot canyon hikes. We will hop on the park shuttle system for a 6-mile scenic drive to the hike’s starting point. As indicated by its name, The Narrows is the narrowest section of Zion National Park. With walls a thousand feet tall and the view sometimes just twenty to thirty feet wide, this unique gorge is one of the most incredible areas in Zion. This unforgettable journey invites you to take a refreshing walk in the Virgin River, so be prepared to get your feet wet.
